COMPOST

Sustainable Farming Through Composting

At Kerrigan Valley Beef, sustainability is at the core of our operation. We repurpose waste from our feedlot through a carefully managed composting process, transforming it into a nutrient-rich soil enhancer that boosts crop productivity and soil health.

The Composting Process

Collection & Preparation – Waste is removed from the pens and gathered in long rows, away from the feedlot, to begin the composting process.

Enhancement – We incorporate straw (for carbon) and water to balance nutrients and aid decomposition.

Processing – Using a purpose-built composting machine, we turn and mix the material over a three-month period, ensuring thorough breakdown and optimal nutrient absorption.

Application – Once fully composted, the product is ready to be spread across our farmland.

Proven Benefits for Soil & Crops

Field trials have shown that our composting system leads to:
Improved soil structure for healthier, more resilient crops
Enhanced water-holding capacity, reducing moisture loss
Increased organic carbon levels, boosting soil fertility
Higher crop yields, even in drier seasons

By integrating sustainable practices into our farming operation, we ensure long-term soil health, environmental responsibility, and superior agricultural outcomes—a win for both our land and our livestock.
